On September 23, 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao met with visiting Cameroon President Paul Biya.
Wen said that China-Cameroon relations have enjoyed a solid foundation. Bilateral friendly and cooperative relations between China and Cameroon have developed in a sound and steady manner in the 32 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two sides have maintained close political contacts and achieved satisfying results in economy, trade, culture, education and public health.
Wen expressed his appreciation for Cameroon's long-term adherence to the One China policy, its support for the reunification of China and mutual support with China on human rights and other international issues.
Wen said that Cameroon is an important cooperation partner of China's in central Africa. The Chinese government attaches importance to strengthening China-Cameroon cooperation in economic and trade fields, would like to continue to provide assistance to Cameroon's economic development within its capacity, and actively support Chinese enterprises conducting mutually beneficial cooperation in Cameroon. He expressed the hope that the two sides can select projects to make the Chinese loan to Cameroon produce better social and economic results.
Biya said that China has made great achievements in all fields since his last visit 10 years ago. He expressed appreciation and extended congratulations.
Biya said that Cameroon and China have conducted sound mutually beneficial cooperation and he is satisfied with that. He also thanked China's long-term support and assistance to the Cameroon and African people. Cameroon attaches importance to further developing relations with China and hopes to strengthen bilateral high-level exchanges. There are broad areas for Cameroon-China economic cooperation and trade, and Cameroon welcomes more investment from Chinese enterprises.
Biya said that Cameroon supports the One China policy and China's reunification cause.
